Context

We were surprised to find that this star dataset has not been available on kaggle uptil now .

The large number of fields in this file provide plenty of analysis opportunities for data scientists .

The source file has been simplified by converting it from fixed width with pipe separated values to csv . RAre occurrences of commas within the values were replaced by semi colons . Further DEtails about each field is provided below .

Citation

The data has been collected by the European Space Agency's astrometric satellite , Hipparcos , active from August 1989 to August 1993 .

The catalog was published on July 1997 .
