HEAT-FLOW DATA
When large bodies form, their interiors are heated by a combination of radioactivity and the heat of formation from the infall of the rock-types. If it's about cosmic-sized bodies, this heat can be generated and lost over billions(1e9) of years.
The end results will be that the core cools off and, if molten, it eventually solidifies.
Measuring the surface temperature of a solid body, and the rate at which heat escapes its surface, provides clues to its internal heating and cooling rates. The frequency of solar activity creates interference in these measurements.
The data publication contains the compilation of global heat-flow data by the International Heat Flow Commission (IHFC; www.ihfc-iugg.org) of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI). The presented data release 2021 contains data generated between 1939 and 2021 and constitutes an updated and extended version of the 2012 IHFC database release (IHFC 2012; later re-published as Pangaea release: Global Heat Flow Compilation Group, 2013).
It contains data from 2 organizations:
- Ocean Drilling Program (ODP)
- International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI)
Each organization is separated by filename.
You can find the column meanings and the equivalents of the entered data values in the report.
Analysis reports are also included in data files.
